Introduction to AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being talked about constantly, and is the hot topic both in the world of business and in the media, but understanding it can be a bit of a minefield.

What is AI?

AI uses computer algorithms to learn human practices and behaviours, such as problem solving, decision-making, understanding patterns and research. AI then acts independently to gather the required information based on its findings and presents this in the user’s desired format, whether that be text, graphs, images, speech or inserted directly into systems.

Think of asking your smart speaker a question, for example, “what’s the weather like today?” the device searches for this information and responds to your request in an instant. This is a simplified use of AI, but it can be used for so much more from small scale, to things we can probably not yet even comprehend.

Benefits of AI

  • Reduced human error
AI can help to reduce human error and the risk associated with this, especially when carrying out particularly repetitive or difficult tasks
  • Increased efficiency
AI can automate repetitive tasks, allowing employees to refocus on more business critical tasks
  • Personalised journeys
AI can enhance personalised journeys across marketing, healthcare, and education
  • Improved customer service
AI can improve customer service by use of virtual assistants or chatbots that can review files without manual input and send instant responses
  • 24/7 availability
AI can work around the clock, long after your offices have closed for the day
  • Accurate data analysis & forecasting
AI can use predictive analysis to look for trends and patterns to provide pertinent business information accurately
  • Compliance
AI can scan and check customer journeys, systems and data to perform compliance checks
